Well, my 'trial' of Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006 Editor is almost up, and the update for it is supposedly expired. SO... I have a request for all you Sobibor image creators!
Request One: Find an update for 'Digital Image Starter 2006' (probably on Microsoft.com). Be careful that it says 'Starter,' not 'Standard' or 'Suite.'
OR
Request Two: Provide me with a link to the download page of a great image editing program (it can be a trial, but if it has updates, then please send the link to those as well).
If anyone can do one or the other, or can actually do both, you ROCK! *having great difficulty myself at both*

I use GIMP. It's a free, full-version download. You can get it on GIMP's website: gimp.org/It's really nice, the only thing is that you can't do a whole lot with text. But it still has tons of other tools on it and you can do pretty much anything you can think of with GIMP. There's lots more information on it on the website. Here's an example of something I did on GIMP alone: i160.photobucket.com/albums/t194/tolilted/RP/bannernightfeather.pngOf course, I'm still a beginner at photo manipulation.

By 'cut', do you mean take the background out? To take the background out of an image, I go to 'Layer', 'Transparency', then 'Add Alpha Channel'. Then I go in and erase the background with the eraser. There's probably an easier way, but that's the only way I know...

If you click on the intelligent scizzors, and set the edge blur to five, then just click around the edge of what you want to select. Go to select -> invert selection. Right click, copy.

I had a tutty on Gimp cutting a while back. I hate the intelligent scissors..I used them for a while...but they didn't work too well after a bit. I strongly recommend that if you cut with the GIMP to use either the pen tool or your eraser, unless the background is a solid color.
As for the Microsoft program, I would give any amount of money to bet that you would need to pay for the whole program. You could download frostwire or limewire and try to get it from there, but most likely you would wind up with trojans and viruses up to wazoo.
Trust me, and Lugu, the GIMP would be your best bet. It's free, they have updates, and it is a really good program.
These are my examples using the GIMP: One two
Edit I found the link to my tutorial.

Thanks, guys! I know this is REALLY old, and sorry for bumping it back up, but all of the methods worked. I FINALLY got a horse cut out that I've been trying to for DAYS.
