Gamble
Gamble stumbled over a gnarled root as she picked her way through the edge of the woods, egged on by the mysterious black stallion who had brough her here. Before her, she could see the green of a meadow, and her ears perked, eager at the thought of a meal and sunlight. Carefully looking across the ground for any more hidden nooks that she might fall in, she started forwards, her black hooves burying themselves the the frost-covered leaf litter strewn across the ground, kicking up eddies as she pranced forwards. She looked back at the male behind her, stationary, with a bright orb and positive auds excited. Naive. The stumpy Icelandic trotted the last couple of yards out of the woods, her banner held high and swaying with her gait.[/color]
Behind, the male walked forwards, a cruel sneer touching the corner of his mouth. He had her caputured.
As Gamble trotted into the meadow, crown held high, she slowed, a tainted smell crossing her nostrils and wafting off into the meadow. One ear flickered, perturbed, and she turned her head, searching the source. Her tawny eyes widened as she took the scene of Horse Head Field in all it's horror, so unwilling in her thoughts that she inadvertantly took a step back, bumping the male who had led her here. He snorted and barrelled her towards the makeshift pens, pushing her bodily towards the other horses until she was cornered in a pen, snorting and pleading for mercy. He left. She swore and kicked out in frustration-not slavery, not again.
As time wore on slowly, Gamble quietened, lifting her head high and looking out at the horses that resided in the field. Many were slaves, like herself, and in a worse state than she at the same time, their legs blackened with mud and locks hanging limp and drooping. Gamble's own pelt was shimmering by comparison, and she thought herself lucky, standing still and quiet, her head and flag held at a respectable level. She quietly told herself that she "most of well look my best and hope for somehorse kind." Maybe slavery this time round wouldn't be so cruel to her.
