The morning grass sparkled with a fresh coating of frost, dancing and sparkling in the morning sun despite the icy fog that rolled over it. Dying yellow and brown leaves dripped cool droplets onto the grass, creating a gentle sort of morning music that haunted the forest air. The smell of winter was everywhere. That one smell that you noticed in the morning when snow was only a few weeks away. An indescribable smell. Cold and ice mixed in with hints of everything that made winter, winter. Overhead the sky was hidden behind the blanket of fog, but it too was a deep grey as if the world had nearly been bleached of color overnight. A bird called in the distance, and a pointed black ear swiveled to better catch the noise. The woods were.. not creepy, but different. Not the kind woods of the wolf's old home, but woods that had an air of warning about them. The wind whistled through the branches and whispered: 'beware those who enter, for your return is uncertain.' The multi-hued male was used to more peaceful trees. Ones that didn't seem to threaten your life. Not that he was afraid. No. Far from that. He just found it sort of ironic how such a small white wolfess happened to own such a cruel, unwelcoming woods. So far her attitude toward him had been rather confusing. She'd be... nice, in a way. Yet, such a wolf that could own woods filled with unwelcoming fog surely had a knife hidden somewhere under her cloak.[/blockquote][/color]
The male was non-other than Zedvinachi, or Zed as he preferred to be called for vinachi had actually been his family name. The Vinachi's were a powerful pack far from the lands of Sobibor. He'd never see them again... not that he wanted to. Zed was a tall, slim wolf. Ribs managed to show themselves at the edges of his cloud grey coat, but he'd been hungrier before. From the middle of his forehead to the tip of his tail ran a long black stripe, gently fading to cloud grey and then a white belly. His underfur was also mostly white, giving him a lighter appearance. Vibrant red eyes, the cause of all his troubles, scanned the surrounding area with a sort of bored intensity. He didn't want to find himself lost in his new master's territory, but he wasn't making an outright effort to memorize it either. He'd followed her to the forest and then lost her in its endless ocean of fog. However, he was not worried. He'd find his way eventually, and hopefully that way was to her den where he could curl up outside and nap like he hadn't done for as long as he could remember. A nap seemed nice. A simple lapse in his complicated life would make things simpler on the male, for he was horribly confused. What was an Elite and what did it do? Was it just her fancy word for slave? Or was it something more, like a slave with privileges? Then again, wasn't a slave with privileges not really a slave at all? Such questions troubled the male who could not ask them. It frustrated him to his very core. He wanted to shout and scream out to the world, but no one would want to hear him.
It was true. Zed was a mute. Not by choice, but by punishment. The only sounds he could make were strange rasps that he nor anyone else wanted to hear. He'd given up attempting to speak long ago. That didn't mean, however, that he didn't want to speak. No. Every fiber of his being wished he could. Voice had been his most used form of communication, and without it he always found himself confused. The male's world had been turned upside down by the painful incident, and a million times a day he wished that he could go back and do it differently. That was out of the question though, and eventually he knew he'd have to be satisfied with things the way they were. Hopping over a small log, the male continued to make his way through the forest. He was quite certainly lost, but eventually someone would find him... right?
