TheDivineLaws
Slaves are treated with uncommon respect, but they are still slaves. If there are heirs, a slave-foal will be selected for each heir, to be the beaten-colt, as it would be terrible to injure the future leader. Slaves may pair and breed, but their foals will become slaves as well and may be taken away when weaned. Until such time as there is a king, there will not be any slaves for the purpose of breeding. Slaves may not leave the land unless banished or escorted by a high-ranking member (king, beta, or betess.) If a slave talks back to a horse of higher rank, ignores orders, or otherwise commits an act of insubordination, they will be banished or killed, depending upon the severity of the act. They may befriend or speak openly to members of higher rank. To injure a higher-ranking gorse will equal instant death to any slave unless the other horse and the slave both say it was an accident.
Members can take it upon themselves to punish a slave by beating, but no more; they cannot kill or banish a slave, and if they punish at all they must tell Calliope or the king (in the future). They cannot talk back or otherwise insubordinate the beta, betess, Calliope, or the king, however they will not be killed but banished. They can breed with either slaves or each other.
Rulers including King, Queen, Beta, and Betess have no restrictions other than that they have to consult with the others before killing a slave or banishing a slave or member.
