Rouge
I've come back.
And I'm heart broken at what I've found.
I've come back.
Below a full shinning sun and a few birds that chirped nosily in the trees, a tawny coated wolf stalked through the underlying pine branches, his nares flaring in order to draw in the smell. Home. This scared and battle-weary land had once been his parents sacred pack. They'd taken it as lovers years ago, only to abandon it when Dem's death cursed the it and sent the remaining survivors to an unthinkable end. Visions of the sleepless nights he'd spent in this territory alone, waiting in vain for the wolves he knew as both alpha and parent to come home and comfort his tired self whipped through his cranium, reminding him of the pain and agony he'd suffered. Rouge vaguely reminisced about the time when he'd stood up to his pack mate, Achilles, and bickered over the female he'd crushed on, Kohia. The days when he'd had his own slave to reprehend came whizzing back in a rush of heartbreak of losing his beloved parents and knowing he'd probably never see them again.
Rouge held the struggling emotions back, his head alert as he carefully picked his way through the forest. As the baron had made his travel over the border, he'd picked up a new, more aggressive and startling scent; one of another brute and his possession. By the smell, Rouge knew this new opponent was indeed a male; probably not much larger in comparison. Rouge had grown immensely over the fading three years. He was in his fourth season of life and fully ready for a new challenge. Once again the aroma of his cherished land swirled around him and Rouge breathed deeply, knowing the all too familiar scents would help him in this coming battle.
Rouge picked up the pace as he lengthened his stride, reaching with claws fully extended to find the heart of this land, where the Alpha would most likely be about this time. In Crimson Rock the best places to sun were right smack in the middle about noon; Rouge himself knew from plenty of past experience. His sharp claws dug into the soft, peaty earth as he raced along, his stomach almost coming to touche the ground as his fur whipped about his slim and muscular body. Rouge was more of a slim wolf; well muscled, but most definitely thinner than the average male. Yet, he never let this get his way. The brute himself figured a leaner body could turn better and receive better agility. Which, he was quite right in a sense.
When Rouge had reached the inner part of the land, his paws slowed, optics buzzing to take in the scenery. The stench that reached his nares now was different; it had a slight more demeaning air, quickly reminded him of his former days with Malou and the brute Shanook. Ugh, those dratted days when he'd been forced to stare at the ground like a helpless fool, instead of the proud and fine creature he really was. Rouge let his mind forget the numerous smells that drifted towards him; he needed to focus on the battle ahead. With a single howl from his lips, Rouge called out to this new Alpha. This new threat. His song rang and fell, weaving stories of his coming and his purpose here. He was here to reclaim his land. He was here to become the heir he'd been. He was here to win.
"Alpha! Come meet my demands for this land or fight for all your worth!"
And I'm heart broken at what I've found.
