Chardonnay Ugh. I groaned as I finally came to a series of dank caverns. The air here was thick with the scent of that nameless brute who had claimed me, and I closed my nares against it. Though not unpleasant, I had been following it for half the day, and I was weary of its musky strength.
I looked around myself properly after taking a quick drink from the foul, brown stream. There was a deep, penetrating cold about the place, and swirls of mist and fog shrouded most features. The high, rocky walls were full of crags and crannies, all of which gave me the spooks. I could just imagine the hellion choosing here to live: It was just like him, creepy and blank. No, it was not a comfortable place to live, not by a long shot, but I hoped I would learn to love it.
I glanced around one last time before lying on the ground, settling myself in to wait for my Master's return.

It wasn't too long before his frame slipped like a quiet shadow back into his new home. His hooves clicked upon the stone surface as he entered the mouth of his vast caves. Ah, and there was his little prize, laying upon the cool surface of the dark terrain. " Welcome home, Chardonnay. I suppose I should tell you a piece of important information that may or may not please you " He stopped a few feet from her, his neck lowering his domed skull closer to her. " Within these lands, you are no longer a slave. You are a free mare among my ranks." He paused letting his words sink in as they echoed slightly within the walled cavern.
" The only way one would become a slave, is to misplace their loyalty to this land and its members, but you will be safe otherwise. " He nodded, lifting his head slightly, taking in the stale aroma of his land. Perhaps soon this place will be filled with life once more, creating a more lively buzz about the entire area. Chardonnay I was shocked. There was no other word for it. Since my mother had sold us both, I had kept the dream of a kind master who would free me tucked away in a dusty corner of my mind. And now, suddenly, when I least expected it, freedom was being thrust in my face. I didn't know how to respond: it was surreal.
I slowly focused my eyes and made my way to my feet. I felt as though there was a pressure building in my cranium, and my heart fluttered within the confines of my chest. I was at liberty to do as I pleased, but for the small rope of loyalty. But how could anyone ensure a slave's loyalty more than to free them? This hellion should harbor no fear of my escape.
"I... Don't worry. I won't betray you, not now, not ever. I can't thank you enough..." My vocals trailed off. This moment was too powerful for words, especially my crudely strung sentences and badly selected vocabulary.
My eyes told the whole story, as well as any open book could have.

He watched her with curiosity, her reaction seemed to fit with the situation, but the brute still didn't really grasp this whole slavery concept. Here stood a small, but capable horse, why should she be any less than other members of his herd? She had not betrayed him, or done anything of the matter to be looked down upon. His herd was to be strong, loyal, and a force to be reckoned with, and so it would be, with creatures who were free to live as nature intended. This, however, still might seem odd from a horse who was not the more gracious of animals, but he had never lived more than to protect his herd, that was his job, nothing more.
" Good ,then. I hope that more will travel here soon to join you here, it still seems very quiet and old.." The rocks, how he loved to trace their tiny cracks, wondering how long this structure had existed. And too, he enjoyed the ever eerie feel of the desolate area, it proved that life could thrive where least expected, whether it be in the desert, or in a place built of stone. He was a survivor, a leader...with a temper to put the heat of the sun to shame. He never wasted his time or energy on something that would not be important, because time cannot be recaptured, energy cannot be recreated.

Chardonnay My amber flecked pools still shone with a warm brilliance as I looked upon the hessian who had set me free. Though I heard his words about others coming to join us, my heart was so swelled with joy and gratitude that I could not concentrate. To be here, with him, was all I could ever want now. He was so kind, so generous...
His comments about others coming set my mind back on track. What would they be like? Would he bring in more mares, or another stallion? Would they be broken and destroyed, or perhaps haughty and cruel? The questions spun through my head on superspeed. "They will travel? Are you not coming with them?" My auds flicked forward as I paused. "You don't seem like one who sits around at home much, I suppose."

His head had lifted somewhat, but his ears were still offering his full attention. A stray strand of wind had blown into the cave, bouncing around the walls, and slowly fading away down the vast, darkened stretches of rock walls and muted dirt floors. His head nodded slightly as her question. " With the herd in its early state, I will attempt to find as many members as I can to get a strong foundation going...during this time I might not be around too often, but things will slow down as everyone settles in. " He eyed her, then looked around his abode.
He did have quite some exploring to do...but not the time to do it in. Ah well, all will work itself out when needed. There is fresh water not but fifty yards back to the right, cold and clean...but I am unsure as to what else lies within the tunnels and caverns. If you wish, you may go ahead and have a look around, just be careful. " His gaze was directed toward the inside of the cave, wondering how far the caverns led, there were probably many comfortable areas to live within, although it might take some adjusting to the darkness.
