My eyes flashed as I stepped foward, wind ruffling the tips of my shedding winter coat. My entire appearance was just off of the norm: amber eyes instead of brown, cream fur instead of white. I used to think it was pretty; that it made me unique. But now? Now I felt like I was a picture slightly out of focus, edges blurred. It was hard to understand why that was: why had that one event destoyed me so entirely? I was supposed to be strong, untouchable. A simple pregnancy had left me utterly heartbroken, with hardly the will to continue.
My eyes traveled upwards to the moon. It was late, probably around the seventh stage of the night. The stars were bright tonight, and easy to see. They were spread thickly across the sky, in glittering streams and swirls. It was beautiful, but the sight was lost on me.
My legs trembled slightly as my paws carried me slowly closer to the water. My instincts had told me I had to find a pack, but I was terrified. So I came in the deepest part of the night, hoping nary another wolven could see me here, and take me home.
