Toboe
Is there no Light in this Nightmare?
A bay stallion roughly pushed a blue roan stallion into the action rock. The blue roan stallion went calmly forward not at all fazed as his master nipped at his backside and lashed out at him with his forelegs. The blue roan stallion walked into a empty coral and looked back at the stallion his amber eyes blank. He stood there waiting for his next master as the wind blew through his black mane. He was handsome, strong, and intelligent, one would wonder why he was standing there. Well the answer's easy..his spirit was broken long ago. There was a small flicker in his soul but it would be quickly stamped out if it grew any larger than that small flicker. He had no hope that he would escape this, and he wouldn't bother trying. He lowered his head to nibble on a small patch of grass that was barely the size of his hoof.
He lifted his head once again when he heard a faint calling in the wind. "To give up means to die my love" It whispered in his ears. He had hope and for a second he stood tall and proud his eyes blazed but it was soon lost as a master beat a mare next to him. How could he beat the ones who chain him? [/color]

Skylark paced along the rows of slaves, now at a steady walk. He usally moved quicker, but today he decided to walk and look for a horse in need. Usually the tall chestnut stallion would only pick out horses that looked defiant and fierce. But today he wanted a soul to actually rescue, not to recruit. Liquid brown eyes spotted a blue roan stag. He looked lost in thought. A flicker of that freedom that he probably yearned for appeared in his ebony eyes. Skylark's pace quickened to a trot until he was close to the stallion. Then he halted.
Vocals met the air. "Hello there. I am Skylark, leader of Canaa. How would you like to be free?" His voice was a rushed whisper. Lately more and more masters were annoyed by his capturing of valuable slaves. They didn't want this finely built up heirarchy to be destroyed by a single chestnut stallion and his herd of ex-slaves and free-roamers.

Toboe looked up and his dull eyes met a chestnut stallion. His head raised slightly as he mentioned freedom. His dull ebony eyes flashed with the fire it held oh so long ago. "Freedom M'lord?" He asked in a shaky voice not sure if this stallion was just telling him this to get him excited. His eyes went dull agian as he decided the stallion infront of him was just pulling his leg. Toboe's head also dropped in respect as his eyes dulled. He wanted freedom as much as the next slave but why would a stallion just come up to him and offer him freedom? He wanted something, he must want something Toboe thought but was afriad to ask the stag.

Skylark eyed the stallion with humor in his deep brown orbs. This stallion didn't believe him! Not for long, thought the chestnut stallion. Then fear set in. This was going to be harder than he had thought. Ears flicked to and fro while he plotted his words out.
Finally he spoke. "Yes, freedom. You could help free more horses, or perhaps defend our land from an attacking master, perhaps. I want your help and friendship. You can come if you like. The choice is yours." The chestnut stag shifted his standing position, relaxing slightly. He wanted to have this stallion on his land. It was important to have a large number of supporters when his number of enemies was rapidly growing.

Toboe raised his head as the word freedom was said agian. The wind picked up the stags black mane a voice seemed to whisper into his ear. Go my love he brings joy and happiness. Some might call him insane for listening to that voice who whispered in his ear. Turning his eyes up he studied the stallion infront of him. "There are others?" He asked. True he can be couragous and brave. He would even fight but that was only when someone was there to give him hope. He looked around him and figured why wait here. Nodding his head he smiled for the first time in many years. "I am Toboe" He said simply.
The chains of slavery have rusted around my feet
