A storm rumbled in his sleep, dark gray coat rising and falling like rolling thunder caps. Deep throated mumbles crashed like thunder against the soft, eerie morning light. With a grunt the beast rolled over onto his right side, pressing his scarred hide and blood red eye into the cool dirt. Eyes squeezed shut, he kept telling himself that it was still nighttime. However, the piercing heat that drifted down into the den betrayed his lie. The brute groaned a bit before rolling onto his belly; dirt clung to his matted fur. Large head rested heavily on his front paws as he kept his multicolored eyes tightly shut. He could see the sunlight on the back of his eyelids, yet he still told himself that it was night. Despite that fact though, the beast's stomach took the moment to complain loudly. Finally giving up, he huffed loudly and rose onto his thick legs. The wolf was large and thickly built; legs like tree stumps, and a torso and neck more like a bull than a wolf. His head was large and square upon his thick neck and shoulders. That didn't mean that he was fat, quite the contrary, the beast was rather muscular, though thin as well. The end of his tail and chunks of his ears were missing, not to mention the heavy coat of scars that covered his entire right side. Layered over the entire creature was a poor maintained coat of various dark grays, mottled and matted, the fur hung off in clumps and even gave way to bald spots in some places. When he looked slightly upward and into the sunlight, red and yellow eyes squinted angrily.
Slowly the creature hauled himself out of the small den, and once he was completely out he shook what dust and fur he could from his coat. The little dark pieces of fluff piled with the others on the ground. The beast growled to himself darkly as he surveyed his new home. It wasn't as nice as the old one, though it was a bit larger. Nonetheless, he'd much rather have his dense forest environment back than the endless desert splayed before him. With a sigh, he turned and bulkily jumped onto some rocks by the den. He made his way onto another scratchy brown rock before gazing down into a crystal clear pool. Bending down, the being of shadows unfurled his pale pink tongue and greedily drank up the pure liquid. When he was done, the male made his way back down to the desert floor with water dripping down his muzzle and throat, causing the fur to spike up and cling together. He shook his coat out again, discarding more bits of fur, before picking up into a slow, brutish trot away from the dens and toward the river. The beast's thick legs made the going slow, and the treacherous terrain didn't help much. Every now and then there were sparse areas of grass, but mostly it was just dried, cracked soil and rocks. Endless brown rocks. Rocks that poked into his paw pads and hid dangerous creatures in their shadows. Nonetheless, it was his home, and he was proud of it.
The trek to the river didn't take too long, and the beast had reached the murky snake of a river by noon. Multi hued eyes glanced up with distaste. He could feel the heat and light beating down on his thick, dark fur; sweat was already forming on his skin. Without a seconds hesitation he submerged himself into the dark, muddy brown waters. The feeling was a relief compared to the pure desert sun. Even the deepest part of the river was only about a foot over his head, and with the slow current it was unbelievably easy to swim across. Wide paws scooped mud out of the bottom and propelled the large beast to the opposite shore. Once on the other side however, he stopped with the water still swirling around his ankles. One glance at the massive desert spanning out in front of him turned his thoughts away from trying to hunt or a trip to the auction rock. He was feeling particularly lazy, and despite being hungry, he wasn't quite hungry enough to begin the fatiguing task of hunting in his new lands. Instead he decided that a nap was in order. Flopping into the river where it was only a couple inches deep, the beast propped his massive head upon his front paws and almost immediately succumbed himself into sleep.
