I hated my upbringing

His mind wandered everything she had said, he wanted to say, 'Yes, I would love to walk around,' however, all that came out from his gob was simply,
"Harem?? Oh no! I do not seek to build a harem. That is such a preposterous idea! Keeping mares and telling them what to do and.. and," he shivered quietly, shaking his crania, attempting to get the distasteful thoughts from his head. Pride had always been raised inside a temple, a white marble temple with high ceilings, double doors and pristine conditions. Everything was perfect for him. Sure he got the occasional beating for stepping out of line, but overall, his childhood was flawless from poverty and illness and anything else he could think of. And being raised outside a herd, under the strict teachings of his ghastly grandsire and equally as morose mother, he didn't even know the first thing about leading or ruling a great kingdom, let alone a harem. Even the word harem made him shiver with disgust.

As a young colt of six months he was taken outside for the first time to witness and then take part of battle in The Pit. During his walk there, him and his mother came upon many scary, tall sable stallions who kept at their feet a battalion of beaten, scarred and tormented mares who would do whatever the head stallion would say, for fear of a harsh if not gruesome beating. The scenes and what he saw was so displeasing he vowed never to rule over any female. Even female enemies, he would never pretend to be over them, it just didn't seem right. So that was why Addy's words came as such a shock to him.

Kicking at the sand absentmindedly, he managed to clear his head of those old, forsaken memories and speak what he had originally intended to say, the troubles in his vermilion eyes vanished. "Actually, I would not mind a stroll, standing here for so long has made my joints stiffen." immediately his strong pistons worked to carry his weight forward, and the young colt followed his new friend gleefully. His mind spun, thinking of something else to say.

Glancing all around, watching the current residents of the beach romp and chat, nothing came to mind. Perhaps Addy has something in mind for a conversation? Though walking close to her side, Pride made sure not to get so close as to intrude upon her personal space. And whenever he felt like he was veering a little too close, he would move away for fear of upsetting her. Pride hadn't met very many other equines in his short journeys, but he knew enough about mares that he knew they loved their space and hated it whenever a male pushed his way into their space attempting meagerly and vainly to attract the female, or entice her to his abode. Pride would never do that, and whenever he saw another stallion being so rude as that, he could not help but feel sorry for the mare or get a little angry himself at the fool's ignorance.

These were his feelings towards mares, and though beaten thoroughly and screamed at by his devil of a mother, he never felt any different about them. Stallions were in plain words, brash, arrogant and egotistical in every sense. Pride would never be that way, or at least he hoped to never become like that.
