Past:
In the beginning of time, when the Earth was formed and the planets in all the Galaxies aligned for the first time, something was locked away. It was an element, lost to the world that housed mankind. As timed passed on this world, known as Earth, the human inhabitants grew greedy for knowledge. Soon, they were stripping apart their world, searching for more and more information, trying to unlock their planet's many secrets. Soon, they discovered many things. Of these things were powers, left over from the time when Dark Matter filled the void, when there was no life, anywhere. These powers scattered across the earth, unleashed in a massive explosion that wiped out the eighth continent completely. Among these powers were Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Pride, and Sloth. Greed was already a part of the world, but with these new curses humanity grew even weaker. Of course, with these sins came their opposites: Chastity, Abstinence, Temperance, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility. All fourteen came forth and spread out, each settling into different hosts. And, when people of different sides came together and bore children, different beings were born.
The first one to show signs was a farmhand, having been abandoned by his parents. One night, as the full moon rose and so with it his fourteenth birthday, a drastic change overtook him. Before his foster parents, the youth changed to a terrible beast, not quite man, not quite wolf. Not knowing that it was his age and not the moon, his personality still the same, they fled. By the time their screams had faded into the night, he was a wolf, fully and utterly. But behold, a terrible bloodlust was upon him. With a howl, he took down the very same sheep he had guarded that very day. They bleated helplessly, unable to protect themselves as the young wolf glided among them, pulling down all but five 'till exhaustion won out over his overworked body.
And that was the first among us. In the morning he was chased from his village and soon news of werewolves began to spread across his home continent before infecting the others with chilling stories of a wolf-man. And, others came forth. They told stories of there own, of men that had changed to panthers, of a girl who had become a crocodile. It frightened the common folk. And those that were deemed different were burned at the stake, or some of them were shot down with silver bullets. what a way to go, huh? Soon enough, our smarter ancestors went into hiding, training themselves to turn into their other beings whenever the wanted. And, as time passed, it became a genetic trait.
When Christopher Columbus "discovered" America, everything changed once more. One of the more courageous explorers (we know naught which) stumbled upon something, half-buried in an ancient temple. A chest, engraved with a language far more complex than any that had been discovered before. Though now we know it contained a warning, the foolish man did not. Hands quivering with the thought of all that could be contained in it, he pried open the lid.
That chest contained more power than our Kings and Queens, our Presidents and our Emperors. It held the key to unlocking the Universe. Inside of it were powers. They escaped, destroying the man who found them and spreading out like the fourteen Sins and Virtues had. But they did something different. They settled in humans, yes. But they also gave them weird strengths, ones that became as hereditary as the shape-changing gene. At first, up until the 19th Century, all "Shape-Shifters", as we are now called, had these powers. But, now, as we begin our journey into the 21st Century, we seem to have lost our ability to control these powers. Now, they pop up at random. But…something has happened. In the 20th Century, we rediscovered our unusual gifts. We began to use them, often in secret. But someone found out. Someone always finds out.

Present:
We call them "Hunters". They're part of the Vatican; hired is more like it. They're bloodthirsty, want our heads impaled upon stakes. Back in the 20th Century, some kids from England were found. What do I mean by that? Simple; their hearts had been ripped out. And in place of each heart was a scrap of paper, each one having a different sentence written across it in ink. They said, We know who you are, Shape-Shifters. The Vatican won't rest 'till we've destroyed you all. You d**ned demons won't win against us when we fight in the name of our Lord. Basically, the Vatican hate us, want us destroyed. We need to fade from History once and for all. All in the name of God. But we think these men act against more for their own personal gain than for their "God". Of course, some of our kind believe in him. It's not like we are demons, after all. No matter what his "Servants" may say.
But, as the years came and went, many more of our kind died. And we were given a label, one that would stick with us up until now and most likely always will. Shape-shifters. It sounds neutral, something that could harm or help you. And we are often neutral, only helping those that offer us some reward and harming those that try and bring us pain. But, the deaths we were experiencing was wiping us out. Our total dropped. And all those that were killed were often younger than twenty-one. By then, your powers settled down. We don't understand it; its similar to how one often stops growing exponentially after a certain period of time. It was the same with us; but, often, those kids never even reached eighteen, so it didn't matter.
We were being hunted down and slaughtered. So one of us made a rather brave plan. She chose to open a school, specifically designed to teach our younger generation how to hide their powers. The Hunters tracked us by our powers, leaving traces of fine powder, different colors that only they could see. And the person who came up with this was a woman named Minerva Snow. She created a school, known as Eureka Academy. It's a weird name for a co-op school. This is a boarding school, to be more fair. It's cover-up is that it's for the intelligently gifted. Basically, they have Seekers, ones that search for children that have our powers. Then, when the children reach the age of thirteen, they are placed in this Academy. You see, their powers often manifest around that age. Another unknown reason.
And these powers that are so dangerous? We control the elements. Not the scientific ones; we mean the true ones. Fire, Earth, Air, Water, Light, Darkness, and Ice. Yes, there are seven. No, we aren't making this up. It's been discovered that we are picked at random to either inherent one of these Elements or simply pass through life with the ability to Shape-Shift alone. Now, you must be wondering, how do we know all this? We are students at this Academy, and you have been invited to join, be it as a Staff Member or Student. Either way, the Hunters will want your blood. Will you join us? Of course, if an element comes forth, you won't have much of a choice.
